Computer Armoire/Desk Buying Guide

Before you leave your house in search of a new computer armoire or computer desks, you might want to spend a few minutes doing some research to figure out what you need. This article will help you do just that.

The first thing to consider is how much space you have for your computer desk. If you are living in a tiny studio apartment, an executive desk probably isn't the best choice. But if you are working with a small space, you still have a lot of options. For a small space, a corner desk is a great option for space that otherwise goes unused. You get a lot of surface area on a corner desk without taking up a lot of floor space.

Style is another consideration. Computer desks or armoires come in a variety of materials: wood, wood veneer, metal or different combinations of those materials are most common. Matching your desk to your other furniture is a good way to pull a room together. Many computer armoires also do a great job of camouflaging the computer when its not in use, and many also have a slide out keyboard tray for easy concealment. When you are done working, you can fold the desk top, push the keyboard in and close the doors and your room goes from an office to a more formal space.

Also, think about how you might be using the desk. Are you going to be working from home for 8 hours a day or are you going to be checking email briefly in the evening before watching a movie? If your desk is going to be heavily used, consider built-ins such as file drawers and CD racks. Make sure the desk is roomy enough to hold paperwork and other relevant work materials. If you are going to use your desk more casually, a smaller option might be a great choice.
